Elyse Aeryn hit the road on her Unstoppable Canadian tour on May 30, with stops in New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.
Known for her powerful voice and soulful roots-rock sound, Elyse is bringing her dynamic live show to stages across the country. The tour kicked off on May 30 in Charlottetown, PE, with stops in New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia.
Her latest single, “Unstoppable,” was released via Symphonic and produced by ECMA Award-winner Jamie Foulds (Pretty Archie, Carmen Townsend). The track blends Elyse’s signature roots-rock sound with bold, reflective storytelling that speaks to risk, rebellion, and the power of embracing your truth.
Driven by gritty guitar tones, soulful vocals, and a steady backbeat, “Unstoppable” captures the momentum of a woman stepping fully into her own—and daring others to do the same. It’s the first glimpse into Elyse’s forthcoming album, set to arrive later this year, and sets the tone for what promises to be her most personal and powerful work yet.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Absolutely! My name is Elyse Aeryn, and I’m an alternative roots-rock artist from Cape Breton Island, NS. I left a career as a process engineer to pursue my passion for music in 202,0 and now I’m about to release my sophomore album. My music reflects that wild, rebellious lust for life, and I love sharing my story as much as my songs
Your new single “Unstoppable” has such an empowering energy. Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the track and what it represents for you?
When I started building on the initial idea for “Unstoppable”, I was thinking about how two people connecting is about more than just their immediate relationship. It’s part of a universal plan. Stevie and Lindsay, for example, the music was so much bigger than the two of them. However, when it comes to songwriting, I often can’t see the whole picture until I’m reflecting on it later. Through collaboration on the “Unstoppable” music video, a deeper perspective was uncovered, and the song evolved into a call from my younger self. There is a relationship between her and me that’s bigger than anything I could have imagined, and when I tune into that, we’re unstoppable.
You worked with ECMA Award-winning producer Jamie Foulds on “Unstoppable.” What was that collaboration like, and how did it shape the sound of the song?
This is the second record I’ve collaborated on with Jamie, and I can’t say enough good things! He really pulled out my best in the studio and gave me so much freedom to develop my ideas. We made a demo of “Unstoppable” that I think would have fit well on Joy State of Mind (my debut) but we changed gears for the studio recording, subbing in synths for our usual B3 organ and brightening the drums to give it more of a modern feel while still maintaining that retro vibe I’ve become known for. Jamie really wanted to open up the pre-chorus that now feels like the most enveloping moment on the whole record, and when the chorus hits, the energy feels totally unstoppable.
You’re kicking off your Unstoppable Canadian Tour in Charlottetown—how are you feeling heading into this run of shows? What are you most excited about?
I’ve been dreaming about putting this tour together since the last record. I’m most excited about coming back to Toronto after leaving my engineering job there at Irving. Free Times Cafe on June 5th with Angela Saini will be a full circle moment after performing one of my first ever shows at that venue during Indie Week in 2019.
You’ve already shared stages with icons like Amanda Marshall and Blue Rodeo. What have been some of your biggest “pinch-me” moments so far in your career?
Honestly, every day I wake up and have to pinch myself that I created the kind of life I used to dream about. But some highlights that stand out include holding my own vinyl record in my hands, hearing the needle drop on Criminal for the first time, performing in Nashville, TN at Americanafest with my whole band, and seeing my name on the back of the t-shirt for Cavendish Beach Music Festival with Chris Stapleton.
Congratulations on being named Music Nova Scotia’s 2024 Entertainer of the Year! What does that recognition mean to you personally and professionally?
Thank you! There is a responsibility and also an incredible joy that comes with giving people a live experience. To think that someone paid for a ticket, travelled to a venue, and spent their evening on a show that I was giving them is out of this world to me. It’s a big credential on my resume, but an even bigger personal reassurance that I am meant to do this thing!
