Known for her gritty vocals and storytelling style, Kim’s no stranger to the charts—“Rock It” is currently at #47 in Canada, while past singles like “Sippin’ on Love” (#5), “Dear Dolly” (#8), and “Just Anybody” (#1) have cemented her status as a rising country force.
Her music has been featured on SiriusXM, in hit shows like Heartland and Fargo, and even in the Oscar-winning Brokeback Mountain. A regular performer at rodeos, hockey games, and international stages, Kim blends traditional country heart with modern energy.
First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey Canadian Beats! I’m from Alberta and love music and horses.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
Ride On is about sports and rodeo, reaching for the top and being your best. Ride on has over 10,000 streams on Spotify in two weeks.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process?
I write when inspired by life, and some I take to co-writers to finish or edit.
Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I write with a pen and paper or use my phone. Lots of hotel pens and paper. I have a few too many books full of songwriting. There is not enough time to record, so I am trying to commit more to production.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release?
I’d like to continue to promote Ride On by touring in the future. I have some radio liners and interviews coming up. Lots of radio emails asking for the song. I am working with ads and TV commercial use.
Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
I am in the studio at the end of June recording a new release co-write with a Disney writer and the family of Morgan Wallen. I plan to release a couple of songs next year and my second album.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
Thrills and life career events would be performing at Ranchmans, being a volunteer at CCMA Awards behind the scenes…being added to SiriusXM radio is pretty awesome! My rodeo family and athletic mentors have helped me with music and training horses. Horses and rodeo inspire me, and the road I have travelled to make each horse a future as a rodeo athlete. All the cool people I have met and the lessons in stories they share. In anthem singing, sports, and athletes, I have met know how deep we need to dig to be the champion in life.
Last, but not least, it’s time to pay it forward. What upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
I would check out my friend, pop artist Dempsey whom I have been writing, recording, and learning production this year. My playlists include songs by Corey Kent, Morgan Wallen, Tucker Wetmore and Tim Hicks. Thank you for the music!
