First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey, I’m Doc Yates. I am a naturopathic doctor and a soul country musician. I was born and raised in Woodstock, ON, and currently live and have my clinics in the Ottawa region.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
My most recent release, “Bottoms U,p” is a fun song that just throws life’s stressors to the side to focus on good times with good friends. It has a catchy, rootsy feel and a fun sing-along chorus.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I write all of my songs while I am driving. I just turn off my brain as I cruise down backroads, and as my thoughts of the day process, a song forms.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
I plan on adding more live shows and new releases to keep the musical momentum rolling.
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
So far, it was playing the mainstage at the Havelock Jamboree, but I am excited for the next adventure.
Last, but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
I have some very talented friends in the Canadian country industry, they need to check out. Brian John Harwood, Kelsi Mayne, and Ches Anthony are all amazing and very hard-working.
