They are called Zach’s Picks Of The Week, so check them out in the links below in this post. These are just my top six that came out this last week on our website, but you can see so much more when you explore all of our articles. Indie rock trio The Alter Kakers have released “My Darling One”, a song that began as a private letter and became an anthem for anyone who has ever said goodbye to a beloved pet. Acclaimed Western Canadian balladeer John Gogo is bringing history to life with his new single “The Morning After”, a rollicking folk tune based on a virtually unknown Robert Service poem. Originally written in 1900, the poem was passed down through generations before landing in Gogo’s hands in 2020. Now, after setting it to music, enlisting Canadian folk legend Valdy, and recording with an all-star lineup, he is unveiling a song over a century in the making. Rising Canadian artist Aidan Skira returns with a vulnerable and refreshingly self-aware new track, “Control (She’s So),” a melodic-rap confessional exploring trust, attraction, and authenticity in modern relationships. With lo-fi textures, bedroom beats, and Skira’s signature blend of emo-rap and melodic hooks, the song offers a bittersweet look at the walls we build and the rare moments someone breaks through them. Emerging alt-rock artist Cam Blake returns with his most personal work yet. Five Months in Manchester. The album is a raw and reflective album inspired by a life-changing stay in the UK. Written during a five-month stint in Manchester, England, and shaped by spontaneous travels across Europe, the album trades polished production for intimate storytelling, offering listeners a stripped-back glimpse into Cam’s creative evolution. Nova Scotia via London, UK singer-songwriter Jont‘s new single, “Fingers Crossed,” is a powerful and emotionally charged anthem that dives deep into the complexities of forgiveness, accountability, and the transformative process of taking control of one’s own emotional freedom. The song offers an unflinching exploration of the personal struggle to let go of anger and pain, turning them into liberation rather than allowing them to fester into resentment. Vancouver-based alt-folk artist Kele Fleming has never shied away from truth. Her songs are protest anthems. They are hymns for the haunted. They are postcards from the edge, sent in the voice of someone who made it back. Her newest single, “The Nite The Stars Fell (For Kurt Cobain),” might be her most personal yet. Out April 5 via World Peach Records, the song is being released on the 31st anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. Fleming wrote it exactly one year earlier, on April 5, 2024—the 30th anniversary of his passing.
