gRaHaM MurRay sEaRs shares new single, “Snow Machine” (Interview)

by JamesM | Mar 3, 2025 | Interviews

gRaHaM mUrRaY sEaRs Blazes a Trail with Title Single “Snow Machine” Ahead of Upcoming Album, SHARE

From the heart of the snow-covered landscapes of Northern Ontario comes a song that captures the exhilarating freedom of winter adventure. Singer-songwriter gRaHaM mUrRaY sEaRs is back with his latest single, “Snow Machine”, a high-energy folk-rock anthem celebrating the thrill of snowmobiling, the beauty of the North, and the simple joys of embracing the season. The track is the first taste of his highly anticipated upcoming album SHARE, set for release on June 27, 2025.

A true storyteller at heart, gRaHaM mUrRaY sEaRs has spent 25 years crafting songs that blend raw emotion with keen observation. While music has always been his passion, his life took an unexpected turn when he left his career in commercial trucking to pursue songwriting full-time, moving to Northern Ontario with his wife, Allison, and their rescue dog, Allegra. Inspired by his first winter in the North, “Snow Machine” was born from the experience of discovering snowmobiling for the first time, an adventure that quickly became a beloved part of his life.

“Snow Machine” is a rollicking, feel-good track with foot-stomping energy, driven by acoustic guitar, rich harmonies, and a hook that’s impossible to shake. The lyrics vividly transport listeners to the snowy trails of Wawa and Dubreuilville, painting a picture of camaraderie, adventure, and the joy of embracing the moment. The song’s upbeat, organic, and cinematic sound evokes influences from indie-folk greats while remaining uniquely his own.

The full album, SHARE, is an intimate and deeply personal collection of 10 original songs that reflect his journey of transformation. Produced, mixed and mastered by Mark Zubek of Zedd Records (Grammy-winner Betty Carter), With gRaHaM leading on vocals and rhythm guitar and Zubek driving the stand-up bass, drums, lead guitar, piano, and organ, the duo collaborated seamlessly on the arrangements of harmonica, glockenspiel, and percussion, crafting a richly textured sound. SHARE promises to be a musical reflection of his new life—one that is freer, more connected to nature, and full of love, so get ready to experience the ride of a lifetime.

Hi gRaHaM! Good to meet you! Care to introduce yourself to the readers?

Hello. Thank you ever so kindly for having me. My name is gRaHaM mUrRaY sEaRs, and I am a singer/songwriter from Northern Ontario, Canada.

“Snow Machine” captures the exhilaration of snowmobiling in Northern Ontario. Can you take us back to the moment that inspired this song?

-YeAh, of course!  So, a few years ago when my wife Allison, our rescue doggy Allegra and I moved up here, to the North, we had never even been on one of these snowmobiles, or snow machines (as they are often referred to) and from what people were saying about them, they sure did sound like the thing to do in order to have some outdoor, winter fun up here.  So, we got one!  Well, we were fortunate enough to have some friends of ours show us some of the trails and, naturally, some of the hot spots along the way (that are mentioned in the tune), and immediately, We found ourselves caught up in this snowmobile fever!  Snowmobiling is quite a big deal up here, and what better way to try and capture some of that first time experience than through song.  From my vantage point, snowmobiling is supposed to be fun, exhilarating, lively, and entertaining, and I simply just tried to recreate some of these thrills as I wrote Snow Machine.

Your music blends storytelling with raw emotion. How did your move to Northern Ontario shape the themes and sound of SHARE?

-I appreciate this observation greatly.  I feel like, more than anything, moving to Northern Ontario has allowed me to decompress, lower my stress levels, reconnect with the abundance of nature that is readily available, and finally be awarded the actual time to record these songs because thankfully, there are so few distractions up here.  Life has never made more sense because we have made love and passion a high priority these days.  I have spent years and years writing.  I had always planned on eventually doing something with all of these songs, but I just simply never had enough time to do so.  Now, I have that time!  We are officially time rich.  Since being here, I have done loads of introspection and enhanced my spirit with the Powers of the Universe, and this has allowed me to find my voice.  Life is worth living when we discover our gift and we take action to give it freely, without expectations.  This is what I hope listeners can hear and feel most in my songs.

You left a career in commercial trucking to pursue songwriting full-time. How did that transition impact your creative process and the stories you choose to tell?

-Well, I have worked very hard in my life to get to where I am.  Trucking has been very good to me, for many years, financially.  But it simply just didn’t sing to my soul the same way that songwriting and music does.  Trucking can be extremely demanding.  It’s always hurry up and wait.  It challenges people on many levels.  But with songwriting, it’s all on my own terms.  There are no rules or regulations.  There are no fines or accidents up ahead that you need to consider.  Anything goes!  It simply allows me to relax, get focused on spirituality, feel those raw emotions, be present in the moment, and reflect on topics that truly speak to me, and it’s fun!  There’s certainly nothing to worry about in ways of things being time sensitive, and that makes all the difference.

You worked with producer Mark Zubek on SHARE. What was that collaboration like, and how did he help bring your vision for the album to life?

-I sure did!  I got lucky.  Not everybody gets this same opportunity.  I was ecstatic when he agreed to work with me!  Mark is a true craftsman.  For people that don’t know, he wears pretty thick glasses, but as he explained it to me one time, he said, “what God took from my eyes, he added to my ears”.  And he’s exactly right.  Mark’s ears are absolutely incredible!  So, originally, I had brought Mark 19 songs that I had recorded quickly on my cell phone that I was interested in recording, and somehow between the 2 of us, we chose the 10 that would work well together on an album.  I just did what I could to sing and play guitar to the very best of my abilities, in the comfort of my own home, and I recorded this onto a laptop and then send off, what I had, electronically, to Mark.  Multi-track recording really makes it easy to add in other instruments and layer vocals, which I had a little experience with.  Then, Mark was the one that single-handedly glued all the pieces of the puzzle together, added in what sounds were missing, and made it become something far greater than I could have ever come up with on my own.  He plays everything, and he is patient, plus he has those remarkable ears, of course!  So, it was really easy for him to listen to my vision and translate this into something worth listening to.  I feel blessed to have found him for this album.  I am REALLY excited to work with him again.
