Canadian Country-Rock Artist Cory Marks To Release New Album Sorry For Nothing
Platinum-selling Canadian country rocker Cory Marks is gearing up to release his highly-anticipated sophomore album, Sorry For Nothing, on December 6th via Better Noise Music. Known for his distinctive fusion of country, rock, and metal, Cory brings his signature sound to a collection of songs exploring themes of heartbreak, resilience, and the road’s solitude—all delivered with raw energy and authenticity.
Produced by industry heavyweights Kevin Churko, Kile Odell, and Andrew Baylis, the album features powerhouse collaborations with Sully Erna (Godsmack), Mick Mars (Mötley Crüe), Travis Tritt, and DL (Bad Wolves). The title track, “Sorry For Nothing,” encapsulates the grit and drive fans have come to love.
Cory first made waves with his debut album, Who I Am, featuring the platinum-certified hit “Outlaws & Outsiders.” With over 220 million streams globally and accolades like International Artist of the Year at The Tasmanian Independent Country Music Awards, Cory continues to solidify his place in the country rock scene. Let’s dive into the inspiration behind Sorry For Nothing and what’s next for this genre-blending trailblazer.
First off, what have you been up to since we last spoke?
When I’m not touring, writing, and recording this new album I’m always trying to grow and be better at home working on my guitar playing, vocals, and drums however when I’m not doing that I’m walking my dog Teslin, Flying an airplane or spending time with family and friends!
Your sophomore album, Sorry For Nothing, is just around the corner. How does this new album compare to your debut, Who I Am, in terms of musical style, themes, and the personal growth you’ve experienced as an artist?
It’s still a solid mix of country and rock music. It’s described as unapologetically me, ranging from songs that were influenced by Merle Haggard to Straight Edge Rock, a mix of Ozzy and Nickelback. It will take the listeners for a ride. I think they’re really going to enjoy no matter what music they’re into. That’s my hope anyway!
You’ve worked with some incredible collaborators on Sorry For Nothing, including Sully Erna, Mick Mars, and Travis Tritt. How did these partnerships come about, and what unique contributions did each of them bring to the album?
They are all really great and unique. I love that they’ve added their style to my songs and only made them better. I’ve been friends with Travis Tritt and Mick Mars for a few years now since “Outlaws & Outsiders” and I’m grateful for their friendships and talent. Sully’s name came up as a possible feature and when it did, I knew he was the guy for this song. Plus, we are both drummers and love Rush!
The mix of country grit, rock drive, and a touch of metal on this album is something you’ve become known for. How do you balance these genres in a way that feels authentic to your sound, and what influences from your past shaped this fusion?
I was lucky to grow up on so much music and different styles from Rush, Ozzy, and Bryan Adams, to Dream Theater, Pantera, and Lamb of God. And on the other side of things, Jimmy Rodgers, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Vince Gill, Eric Church, and Brad Paisley. I do love all these artists and their music, so I’ve always tried to mix those sounds together, eventually creating my own sound.
This year has been full of major milestones, including winning the International Artist of the Year at The Tasmanian Independent Country Music Awards. How did it feel to receive this recognition, and what does it mean for your career moving forward?
It’s really special to me, especially when it comes to winning awards in different countries such as Australia. I’m grateful for their support and can’t wait to make my way down there to finally perform for everyone!
What can fans expect from your upcoming tour in support of Sorry For Nothing? How will your live shows evolve with the new material, and what can you share about your plans for the stage performances?
I’m always up there giving it all I got, heart and soul so they can expect that. It will be fun mixing up older songs and these new ones and I can’t wait to get back out with the band to play these live!
