Ryan Ofei – Five Questions With

Grammy-winning Toronto-bred vocalist Ryan Ofei brings his hit-making sound to the US, Europe and Toronto

GRAMMY-winning Ghanaian-Canadian vocalist Ryan Ofei, a rising star in the contemporary soul, gospel, and afrobeats scene, known for his soul-stirring vocals, performs a three-city mini-tour to promote his debut album Restore – which has already amassed 15+ million streams – and his new single/video “Father’s House” from the album.

Ofei officially arrived on the music heatseeker’s maps over the last year, releasing infectious global-ready anthems like the single/video “Celebrate” and the catchy afrobeats-tinged single and video for “Baba” featuring CalledOut Music and Annatoria.

As a member of the GRAMMY-winning Maverick City Music, Ofei had also gained prior global recognition for his powerful performances on albums Jubilee and Kingdom Book One (Deluxe).

Ofei’s debut album Restore, released in June 2024, seamlessly showcases a blend of his diverse musical influences; from soul, gospel, and pop, to afrobeats and R&B. His collaborations on the ever-so soulful single “Temple” with Madison Ryann Ward and the afrobeats-infused “Daily” featuring Becca Folkes and Limoblaze, highlight Ofei’s distinctly unique sound and vocal versatility.

Ofei’s exclusive Toronto Restore Tour date brings him to the state-of-the-art TD Music Hall (178 Victoria Street) on Friday November 29th for a special full-length concert set, with special guest Bridge Music, that brings his raw emotion and high energy to the stage, and explores his life’s challenges, resilience, and faith.

The Toronto-bred, Dallas-based vocalist’s dynamic stage presence has taken him on tours across the globe, including co-leading the Kingdom Tour with stops in major venues and cities like the Barclays Center in New York and the TD Garden in Boston.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you follow a specific method or creative routine?

My songwriting process is one of inspiration. Using whatever I’m learning and feeling, I tend to journal concepts and keep voice notes of melodies and hooks. Later on I’ll work with my team of producers and collaborators and see how we can bring the small ideas to life. It’s always like a gift when you have a full song done because the collective creativity really brings something so beautiful. Sometimes it takes a couple hours and other times it takes months but the process is always fueled by inspiration.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

I’m going on my first tour through some of my favorite cities. The Restore Tour will be in Dallas, London, and Toronto! I’m looking forward to connecting and sharing memories with a lot of the people who have been showing love and support from a distance.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

My collaborations with Maverick City Music really opened up my career. I got to connect with a lot of awesome people through that experience. I also got to write and release some great songs as well. I’m always grateful for my time with the group and being apart of Grammy wins & nominations was a major highlight. Touring with the group also gave me some awesome experiences. Maverick City showed me what is possible in the genre of Christian/Gospel music.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

Bridge Music, SAO! & AP are some of the artists & bands based in Canada that I love and really want to support. They’re friends of mine but they also have unique sounds that push the limits on Canadian music as a whole!
