On September 17, John 5 came to the Starlite Room in Edmonton to support his “Strung Out” tour. Show openers were Turning Jane, as well as Canadian rockers Sticks N Stones.
Unfortunately, I arrived late and missed Turning Jane, but everyone I talked to said they were fantastic. I’m hoping to catch them next time they’re through.
Sticks N Stones were fun, and kind of reminiscent of Volbeat in certain aspects.

To me, John 5 has always been a criminally underrated guitarist. The dude is an absolute virtuoso, and given his history with both Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, I feel like he was definitely not allowed to showcase his full skillset and potential. His playing was absolutely mind-blowing. Shreddy metal riffs one song, to chicken-pickin’ bluegrass riffs. As the new guitarist for 80’s metal giants Motley Crüe, it was only fitting he added a medley of Crüe tunes, much to the delight of the crowd.
Being able to see him in such an intimate venue was a real treat. He also makes the BEST guitar faces, haha.
