Last night, Charli XCX and Troye Sivan brought the second night of their highly-anticipated Sweat Tour to Laval’s Place Bell. From the show being nearly sold-out, to the sea of lime green outfits on the metro to the venue, we knew it was going to be a special night!

After an opening set by English singer ShyGirl, the headlining set started with Troye Sivan’s Got Me Started, in front of an electric crowd. Double-headlining sets are rare, but when the two artists are a natural fit, the chemistry is perfect and makes for an epic evening. Even better, while those double-headliners tend to go one after the other, sometimes alternating the order night after night, but Charli and Troye offered us a blended setlist, taking the stage every other song!

While they have a very similar audience, both singers have super different styles, but the contrast between the two worked perfectly, weaving an interesting story throughout the night. Troye brought the more mainstream vibes with major hits My My My!, One of Your Girls and Rush, with plenty of dancers and softer lights, making it feel like an ethereal pop dream. Charli XCX, on the other hand, has been dominating summer with her album brat, and set the tone before she even got on stage, with a showstopping entrance including a massive neon green curtain box around the end of the catwalk. Throughout an epic setlist (mostly from brat, but including some throwback hits like Spring Breakers, Vroom Vroom and I Love It), Charli turned the place upside down and brought likely the biggest party Place Bell has ever seen. Every time she hit the stage, she did it in a new sickening outfit, and she truly seemed to be living her best life out there.

The production in itself was also impeccable. The main stage set up with scaffolding, making you feel like you’re dancing in the streets of New York after a night out with your friends, accompanied by a catwalk with a cage underneath it, getting both performers so close to their fans. The lights were strobing non-stop, turning Place Bell into the most exclusive afterhours club! And something needs to be said about the audience, who was screaming, jumping and dancing nonstop throughout the 2-hr set. Early in her set, Charli screamed at the crowd “Montreal, I wanna see you sweat”, and that she did, all the way through epic closing track Talk Talk.

We’re still early in the Sweat Tour, but last night was clear proof that this will be one of the major tours of the fall, and that brat summer is far from over! Charli XCX and Troye Sivan will be playing Toronto tomorrow before going back to the US, check their website for tickets and more info!
