On September 8th, Glass Animals brought their unique blend of indie-pop to Vancouver’s Rogers Arena, delivering an energetic and visual performance. Rising from modest beginnings since their formation in Oxford in 2010, the band catapulted to fame with their viral hit “Heat Waves” in 2022, and their latest tour is in support of their fourth album, I Love You So F**ing Much*, released on July 19th.
Eyedress, aka Idris Ennolandy Vicuña, a Filipino singer-songwriter, rapper, and record producer, opened the night.
Known for their eccentric style, Glass Animals transformed the arena into a futuristic space station. The set design, simpler than their previous tour’s resort-like stage (but still with the presence of a pineapple!), evoked the feeling of being on a spaceship, highlighting frontman Dave Bayley as the focal point. Bayley, performing without his trademark glasses, frequently engaged with fans, running into the crowd and sharing personal moments.
The show opened with “whatthehellishappening?” from their newest album. Fans love the band’s distinctive culture, echoing the eclectic and quirky identity that Glass Animals have cultivated. The set spanned their discography, from early tracks like “Gooey” to the viral “Heat Waves,” which closed the night on a high note.
Glass Animals’ unique charm lies not just in their music but in the shared, eccentric experience they create. Make sure to witness it for yourself as the band continues their tour until September 22nd in Austin, TX before flying to Europe. More info on their website.
