Pickle Juice – Five Questions With

Pickle Juice Unveils Debut Single, “Toxic and Sweet”

Emerging from the heart of Revelstoke’s growing rock scene, PICKLE JUICE is excited to announce the release of its first single, “Toxic and Sweet.” Known for their energetic shows, the band is excited to share its music with fans beyond a live setting. Their unique blend of punk, alt-rock, and indie sounds come together to create a debut track that is by all means a statement.

“Toxic and Sweet” was recorded in Vancouver at Echoplant Studios, it was produced and
mixed by award-winning audio engineer David Ziehr. It is the first of 2 singles recorded in the
same session in April 2024.

The band shares,

“We are buzzing about the release of “Toxic and Sweet” and thrilled that our fans can finally listen to our music anytime they wish. This is just the beginning. We have a whole heap of tracks in the works that we are excited to share soon!”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are PICKLE JUICE a five-piece Alt Rock band from Revelstoke, British Columbia. Consisting of five ski bums from Australia, Canada, and England. We have been playing together for just over a year now and played our first show in May 2023 and since then have played roughly around 25 gigs. We’re blessed to have a great fanbase in our hometown who regularly pack out our shows and since the start of 2024 we have ventured around BC playing sets in Penticton, Big White, and Whistler.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

“Toxic & Sweet” is our debut single which we recorded and produced by David Ziehr at EchoPlant Studios in Port Coquitlam, Vancouver, BC. It is the first song we completed as a band and we have played it at every show. As for what the song is about? Well, we’re going to leave that up to interpretation.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

So we now have a handful of originals that we play live and there isn’t really a set method that we have strictly used. Initially, our vocalist would send us some ideas of lyrics alongside a chord progression/key to work within and then everyone would individually try to work on ways to develop on that. Overall as a group, we tend to focus on the structure of the songs primarily until we have them solid, and then any extra creative flairs or changes we want to make would naturally appear as we’ve continued to play them in our practice space and at shows.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos or additional content the fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

So on the 27th, alongside the release of “Toxic & Sweet,” we played a two-hour show for RevyLive at the bandstand in downtown Revelstoke.

There are also a couple of shows in the pipeline, with us heading back to Penticton in August, and then off to Vancouver Island to play at a festival in early October. Maybe there are more songs to come out, maybe there’s more recording to be done in October, you will just have to keep a close eye on us to make sure you don’t miss anything!

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

I feel like we all agree that the moment we upgraded from practicing next to a furnace in the basement of Ben’s shared house (cheers to Herbert Hotel!) to a genuine space that we can all access at any time escalated us as musicians and as a band. There have been a few highlights, this year’s event at Tadpole, our first sold-out ticketed event at the Legion, and performing out of town for the first time this winter in Big White where we, for the first time, were playing to a completely brand new crowd.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

We couldn’t tell you to go anywhere else other than to check out Beef Dip, our boys from Revelstoke. We’ve played a few shows with them now and they always sound amazing live, have wicked riffs, and Andrew, their lead singer, can make some big sounds! They finished recording their debut album earlier this year too so definitely chuck them a follow on the socials and check them out!
