Eternal Drak – Five Questions With

ETERNAL DRAK Sets Historical Hauntings To Black Metal In New Album, Imprisoned Souls

Québec City, Canada’s, Eternal Drak released their fifth black metal album, Imprisoned Souls and they are excited to see fans’ reactions to this offering that describes a horror story between thrash, black, and death, and has a twisted concept surrounding the tribulations of trapped spirits and anecdotes from residents of an enchanted place. The band explains further:

“The process of creating this album was an intense and liberating experience. We delve into the darkness and depth of our souls to give life to a set of songs that reflect our evolution as a band and unbridled passion for the genre. Every riff, every scream, and every note was carefully crafted to convey the raw energy and brutality that characterizes our style. In the studio, we felt like prisoners of our own emotions, but in the end, we managed to free our souls through music.”

Imprisoned Souls is a ten-song horror journey into the darkest depths of extreme metal. Eternal Drak hopes this album catches listeners in a whirlwind of dizzying riffs, frenetic rhythms, and lyrics full of desperation and rebellion. They want everyone who dares to give this a spin to feel the power of thrash black metal in each song and become fully immersed in a state of trance and liberation.

For Eternal Drak, each album has a different concept, and on this album, most of the lyrics are about experiences lived on an old farm located in Colombia where there was an improvised hospital during a great battle of the War of Independence. Other lyrics are interpretations of what they believe is behind these paranormal stories. Join in the eerie atmosphere that is highly recommended for fans of Watain, Kreator, and Motorhead.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m Drakar, co-founder, guitarist, and singer of the band Eternal Drak, a thrash black metal band enriched with small touches of groove and rock & roll. Founded in 1997 in Colombia but is now based in Quebec Canada for 5 years. During these years we have released 5 Long Plays and 2 Eps, as well as several video clips and video lyrics. We are 3 friends who enjoy making the music we make and above all we enjoy creating and performing.

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

The album describes a horror story between thrash, black, and death, from how the spirits were trapped, through several of the anecdotes that the residents of this enchanted place experienced but also possible points of view of the spirits that are trapped. The process of creating our fifth thrash black metal album, ‘Imprisoned Souls’, was an intense and liberating experience. We delve into the darkness and depth of our souls to give life to a set of songs that reflect our evolution as a band and unbridled passion for the genre. Every riff, every scream, and every note was carefully crafted to convey the raw energy and brutality that characterizes our style. In the studio, we felt like prisoners of our own emotions, but in the end, we managed to free our souls through music. For our loyal fans, ‘Imprisoned Souls’ will be a 10-song horror journey into the darkest depths of music. We hope this album catches you in a whirlwind of dizzying riffs, frenetic rhythms, and lyrics full of desperation and rebellion. We want you to feel the power of thrash black metal in each song, immersing you in a state of trance and liberation.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

The lyrics and music in general are individual work, however the rhythmic construction and assembly of the parts is a team effort.

In the initial stages of Eternal Drak, the composition was a very cooperative process between my brother and I, the ideas flowed and corrected each other, however with his death, the composition fell largely on me. I usually start with the concept of the song, and what it is going to talk about, and that’s how I determine how the music could tell that story by itself. I take my guitar and thinking about that idea I start playing some riffs. When I like something, I record it. He then assembled the Riffs and designed a simple drum set for them as a guide. Finally, I compose the lyrics following the initial idea in such a way that it complements the music that was created.

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

The first thing we will do and that any band should do is a big campaign on social networks and by email, seeking to reach out and inform those possible listeners and the media of the scene that Eternal Drak has worked hard and made this new album available to them. A video clip is in the design process and some video lyrics will be made. Regarding the shows, we are lining up a new lineup and we are doing it as quickly as possible to finalize several offers and distribute our album.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

The history of Eternal Drak is divided into two points, from 1997 to 2007 and from 2019 onwards, in 2007 the band dissolved for different reasons. But the moment that marked Eternal Drak was the Death of Eduardo Martinez (Warhammer), the band changed in many aspects, starting with the lineup, but also musically there was an evolution.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

There is a band in the Colombian Rock & Roll scene with good Heavy metal touches called RIP, they have been making music for several years and are already an institution in their city.
