Callie McCullough shares new single, “Great Big Sky”

CALLIE MCCULLOUGH SOARS WITH CELTIC-INSPIRED FOLK SONG “GREAT BIG SKY”

With a nod to her Celtic roots, Stratford, Ontario singer/songwriter Callie McCullough plants a firm foot in the folk realm with her new single “Great Big Sky,” an ethereal and poignant wanderer’s anthem she penned solo while delving into the complexities of existence.

The Grammy-nominated producer Dave Brainard’s epic capture of this song harkens towards the style of Mumford and Sons and Lord Huron, adding a bold and exciting new stripe to McCullough’s sound that perfectly weaves her lyrical vulnerability with canyon-sized soundscapes into a true work of art. This is the third release Brainard and McCullough have teamed up on, following the acclaimed single “What If I Don’t” and “All That I Want,” which received radio airplay in Canada, the U.S., and the UK.

“I’m a traveller at heart, and maybe that’s because when I’m standing still, all the questions come rushing in,” says McCullough. “There are so many beautiful places and things in this world, and at the same time so much tragedy. It’s all a bit of mystery to me and that’s the magical experience of being human.”

A modern singer/songwriter inspired by timeless classics and old-school country music; Callie McCullough has chased her own unique muse for years making contemporary roots music that nods to the legends who came before her. It’s a sound anchored in honest storytelling and McCullough’s angelic voice, whose Alison Krauss-worthy tone and Dolly Parton-sized beauty stand in contrast to her dry humor and larger-than-life personality.

With high praise from American Songwriter and Billboard, Callie has made an impact in the music scene with her vulnerable vocals, breathtaking lyrics, and fusion of Traditional Country, Celtic, Bluegrass, and Folk Influences. She creates a musical tapestry that effortlessly captures classic and rootsy nostalgia, coupled with her own contemporary twists, sharp songwriting, and the expressive singing of an artist who has truly found her voice. McCullough’s debut album, After Midnight (2020), featuring first-class picking from members of the GRAMMY-winning bluegrass band Union Station and western-swing super-group The Time Jumpers —

quickly put her on the map, garnering a Canadian Country Music Association Nomination for Alternative Country Album of the Year, and three CMAO Nominations: Roots Artist of the Year, Rising Star, and Songwriters of the Year.  Now teamed up with Grammy Nominated Producer Dave Brainard (Brandy Clark, Jamey Johnson) in this next round of music McCullough showcases a new side of her artistry combining grassy textures, soaring melodies, loose grooves, and catchy hooks into an infectious and downright refreshing sound.
