Montreal’s Hansom Ēli unveil their new single “Places”, from forthcoming album Sip
Montreal, QC’s indie/pop siblings Hansom Ēli have unveiled their brand new single, “Places,” from their upcoming release, Sip, set for release on September 6, 2024, via The Vault.
This Alternative Pop, Indietronica, Indie Folk nostalgic song describes the experience of losing oneself in others, creating a feeling of duality that hurts our integrity. Everything can seem to be won or lost depending on our desire to truly find ourselves. In an ethereal and magical way, Paris becomes the meeting point where our lives intersect in an attempt to find each other. Led by the singer Camille’s soft female vocals, combined with beats and reverberated electric guitar loops and layers, the city of Paris becomes the symbol of the search for oneself and others, with, sometimes, contradictory feelings.
Hansom Ēli, a duo made up of Camille and Alexy Guérer, skillfully blends folk, indie-pop, and electronic sounds for a style that feels both free and eclectic. Themes of ecology and nature are woven through their music, reflected in both their thought-provoking lyrics and the integration of nature recordings and samples.
The duo’s songwriting process is spontaneous, and the right words are found through improvisation. This is how they landed on their name, Hansom Ēli—a playful exploration of gender norms. The compliment “handsome” is often attributed to men, so they decided to make it gender-neutral and make it their own. Inspired by artists like Billie Eilish, Peter Gabriel, Mutemath, and Snarky Puppy, the Guérer siblings sing in French, and English, and even dabble in Spanish.
Since their 2019 debut EP, Yesterday, Hansom Ēli has achieved notable milestones. These include a PDV grant from RBCxMusic and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, plus the use of their song “Summer Rise” in a Tourisme Montréal campaign. They’ve also performed at notable festivals like SXSW, Pop Montreal, Osheaga, and Francos de Montréal. Their pandemic-focused work on the web series STUCK (TFO / ONFR+) further broadened their reach.
2021’s single “Mezcal” (a collaboration with Mike Clay of Clay & Friends) found chart success on French-speaking WKND radio in Montreal and Quebec. Hansom Ēli are poised for even greater recognition as they continue their exciting rise on the Canadian music scene.
