MIA KELLY ANNOUNCES SOPHOMORE ALBUM, TO BE CLEAR COMING OCTOBER 4th
Through the lush folk and earthy Americana of her sophomore record, Mia Kelly establishes herself as a spellbinding voice, blurring the lines between intimate memoirs and compelling, semi-fictional narratives. Today, she announces the October 4th release date of her sophomore album, To Be Clear, and shares the lead single/video for “Bonefish Boys.” The Gatineau-based songwriter inhabits the characters on the new album, including the former seadog that inspired the lead single.
While living in Nicaragua, Mia’s next-door neighbour shared stories from his life with her. “When I asked him when he had joined the British navy, he answered, “when the ships were made of wood, and the men were made of steel,” which inspired me to write this song,” Mia says. Americana UK premiered the video and shared, “The video is a brilliantly-executed accompaniment to the song that delivers its own story with the help of some fine acting.”
Mia will embark on a UK tour with Charm of Finches beginning June 6th – details below and at www.miakellymusic.com.
Recently awarded Young Performer of the Year and Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards, Mia is swiftly gaining recognition as a poetic lyricist with a powerful and versatile voice.
“For me, songwriting has always been about storytelling. When I have big feelings sitting with me, I can’t just let them be. They simmer, and then they have to come out. Often the ones that need to come out are heartache and horror. Those boil over,” Mia says.
