Sarah McLachlan, SM School Of Music Performers
Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver, BC
May 23, 2024
On Thursday night, Canadian legend Sarah McLachlan kicked off her ‘Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th Anniversary Tour’ at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, BC.
The night’s proceeds will benefit the non-profit Sarah McLachlan School of Music. As such, students of the school opened the night with exclusive performances showcasing their talent. The SM School of Music has 3 sites in Canada (Vancouver, Surrey & Edmonton). It offers a full spectrum of music programming and leaning resources at no cost for the students.
Around 8:20pm, McLachlan began the concert with “Sweet Surrender” instead of the album’s first track, “Possession,” to keep the latter part of the show engaging. Despite not including songs from her earlier albums, McLachlan‘s performance was enriched by her extensive catalog and a full band.
McLachlan, despite having a “blown out” voice, delivered stunning vocals throughout the concert. She candidly spoke to the audience about her daughters and the power of female friendships, particularly before performing “Good Enough,” a tribute to her best friend. The setlist included the full performance of the Fumbling Towards Ecstasy album and some of her biggest hits like “Hold On” and “Angel”.
Sarah McLachlan will be on tour across North America in the coming month including Toronto (June 19) and Laval (June 20). Feist and Allison Russell will join as support acts. She just announced more dates in the fall for the Canadian leg of her tour, with support from Tiny Habits. Tickets will go on sale Friday, May 31.
