Cleaning House (Or Trying) is a testament to Manitoba country artist Catie St. Germain’s undeniable talent and dedication to her music
On May 24, 2023, MCMA Emerging Artist of the Year and Red River Métis artist Catie St. Germain proudly stepped into her own with the release of her six-track debut EP Cleaning House (Or Trying) via Atomic Ranch Records / Warner Music Canada. Her latest single “Cleaning House” was also released to Canadian country radio.
St. Germain, from Niverville MB, is the granddaughter of Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame royalty, Ray St. Germain and has always had music coursing through her veins. She owns a powerful and versatile voice and that, combined with her authentic songwriting, blew up the Manitoba country music scene this past year. Now, she is ready to pave her own trailblazing path with her signature vocals and authentic songwriting. Cleaning House (Or Trying) is a carefully curated collection of songs that showcases St. Germain’s artistic journey from a busy mom of three to country music’s next big star.
This 34-year-old mother of three, while no stranger to the music industry, let her career goals take a backseat to raise her sons shares,
“I am so thrilled that my debut EP is finally out in the world! This has been a labour of love and I am so grateful to my team and family for supporting my dreams as an artist. While my musical journey has not followed the typical path, I’m immensely proud to demonstrate to my sons that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to and that I can be a devoted Mom while pursuing my dreams wholeheartedly.”
Home to previously released singles “High Forever,” “The Day Gets Too Long,” which went #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown, and St. Germain’s first original single “The Taxman” which led to six Manitoba Country Music Award Nominations (2023), this EP confirms St. Germain’s status as an emotional storyteller and powerful vocalist.
The title track “Cleaning House,” written by Brooke Eden (SACHA), Eric Arjes (Jelly Roll, Breland, Alee), Jessica Cayne (Brittney Spencer, Darius Rucker), and Emma-Lee (Mickey Guyton, Brett Kissel, Washboard Union) is an energetic track detailing the end of an unhealthy relationship. It pays homage to the cathartic process of taking back control and removing people from your life who no longer serve you regardless of the situation in life it applies to.
Says St. Germain of this single,
““Cleaning House” was one of my favourite songs to record on the EP. Growing up in small towns, I resonated deeply with the lyrics’ encouragement to ignore the rumours and the illusion of perfection. It’s a song about female empowerment accompanied with cheeky lyrics that perfectly reflects who I am to my core as a mom, wife and artist.”
