Jill Barber shares new single, “Ordinaire”

Jill Barber Unveils “Ordinaire” from her forthcoming French language album, ENCORE!,

Jill Barber has presented her magnificent version of Robert Charlebois’ classic “Ordinaire” from her forthcoming French language album, ENCORE!, out June 14th. “Ordinaire” follows the singles “Padam Padam” and “De temps en temps.” Catch Jill perform this summer at Jazz Festivals across the country including Toronto and Halifax Jazz Festival.

Robert Charlebois’ “Ordinaire” was an obvious choice as Jill’s third single. A Québecois classic, “Ordinaire” is a haunting and evocative confessional of a famous singer. “The first time I heard this song,” says Jill, “I was completely spellbound. I approached it like an actor might, becoming the central character, in all her fragility.” Jill’s vocal performance along with lush and dramatic string orchestration make this “Ordinaire” anything but ordinary.

ENCORE! marks the ten-year anniversary of Jill’s best-selling debut francophone album, Chansons, and sees her team up once again with Grammy Award-nominated producer Drew Jurecka (Dua Lipa, Alvvays, Dermot Kennedy). ENCORE! features new interpretations of French classics including songs by Joséphine Baker, Charles Trenet, Blossom Dearie, Django Reinhardt, and Edith Piaf. Catch Jill this summer at Jazz Festivals across the country including Toronto and Halifax Jazz Festival.

Ten years ago, Jill found herself at an intensive French immersion school in the south of France that culminated in the recording of an album of classic French songs ranging from Edith Piaf to Serge Gainsbourg. A decade later, this album- Chansons- has been streamed over 120 million times and is currently on its 4th vinyl pressing. The album took Jill to travel the world, playing in France, Austria, Japan, and Mexico, as well as several jazz festivals across Canada.

Jill is a three-time JUNO Award nominee and Sirius XM Jazz Artist of the Year. Along with multiple regional awards and a Polaris Prize nomination, her album Chansons was certified Gold, with her albums having been streamed over 200 million times around the world.
