Ottawa Singer, Songwriter & Streamer Alanna Sterling Releases Stunning Single + Video For “Goodbye”
Ottawa-based non-binary singer, songwriter, pianist, and partnered Twitch streamer, Alanna Sterling announced their new album, Everything’s gonna be just fine will arrive May 24 via Indica Records. Reminiscent of such greats as Adele and Amy Winehouse, the new album was recorded and mixed by the award-winning Pierre Marchand, longtime producer and collaborator of Sarah McLachlan.
Alongside the announcement comes the stunning new single “Goodbye”, accompanied by a gorgeous music video directed by Yang Shi. “Goodbye” is a perfect showcase of Sterling’s unique ability to evoke profound emotions through their incredible vocals, and powerful songwriting.
On the new single, Alanna shares:
“I’m amazed at how something so powerful came to be. It’s tethered to the human soul because everyone has gone through loss of some form or another. It’s about navigating through life without what you lost.”
Sterling’s journey to music came early in life as a way to cope with trauma and mental health issues growing up. Their melodic originality and lyrical depth put Alanna in a world-class of their own. Their ability to convey deep powerful emotions and their message of healing are beacons of hope for a world that is suffering.
Songwriting came naturally, and since the age of 12, Alanna has composed hundreds of songs, most of which are still unpublished.
“I write music to help work through life’s adversities and inspire others to overcome their own battles,” they shared.
Alanna made their mark as a partnered streamer on Twitch since 2018, under the alias “MermaidUnicorn”, cultivating a highly engaged community of almost 50K followers.
In September 2023 Alanna met with award-winning producer Pierre Marchand (Sarah McLachlan) to discuss recording some new songs. Right away, Alanna sat down at the piano and started playing.
“Wanna record?” Pierre asked while setting up his mics.
Alanna played an uninterrupted, one-and-only, first take and this unique moment in time, captured thanks to Pierre’s foresight, is now being released as it was recorded, live off the floor. Everything’s gonna be just fine, the album, was born.
