Canadian Singer-Songwriter Explores Love, Family, and Returning Home on “Hometown (Take Me To)”
Multi-platinum Canadian singer-songwriter Bobby Bazini released his single “Hometown (Take Me To)” in April 2024, offering a heartfelt reflection on settling down, returning to your roots, and starting a family.
The song appears on Bazini’s EP Stone of June, released June 7, 2024, via Spectra Musique. Produced by Connor Seidel (Charlotte Cardin, Half Moon Run, Soran), the project was written and recorded alongside Bazini’s album Pearl.
The recording sessions brought together several notable Canadian musicians, including Conner Molander (Half Moon Run), Robbie Kuster (Patrick Watson), Eveline Rousseau (The Barr Brothers), and Antoine Gratton.
What Is Bobby Bazini’s “Hometown (Take Me To)” About?
“Hometown (Take Me To)” explores the desire to return home, settle down, and build a life with someone you love. Inspired in part by the timeless soul music of Sam Cooke, the song combines an uplifting arrangement with Bazini’s reflections on family, belonging, and finding your place.
Bazini explains:
“’Hometown (Take me to)’ is that classic tune of thinking of finally settling down, moving back to your hometown, and starting a family,” shares Bazini. “You can feel the influence of Sam Cooke. Connor (Seidel) and I are huge fans of his music. I think he has the most beautiful voice in the world. What I love about Sam Cooke is how honest and real his music is. His voice and his songs are timeless. I was trying to channel a little bit of him with this song and I think it has a special place on this EP. It’s a lot brighter than anything else on this project but it’s full of truths.”
With an elegant arrangement as uplifting and gentle as the arrival of spring, “Hometown (Take Me To)” followed the release of the EP’s first single, “Maia,” which received radio support across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
The release also followed Bazini’s collaboration with legendary DJ Gilles Peterson on a remix of his track “Waterfallin’.”
