On February 29th alternative rock band Porno for Pyros made their final appearance in Toronto for their Horns, Thorns en Halos Farwell Tour at History. As stated in the name of the tour this is the band’s last tour as they announced late last year the group will be calling it quits but not before releasing a few new songs and one final musical journey across North America.
The band first came into existence in the early 1990s when frontman Perry Farrell concluded his time in Jane’s Addiction and put together a new four-piece group with guitarist Peter DiStefano, bassist Martin LeNoble, and drummer Stephan Perkins. The band’s original run was only about 5 years time before disbanding for many years until 2020 when an announcement was made on social media that the original Porno For Pyros lineup would be re-forming.
Fast forward to 2024, once again bassist Martin LeNoble announced his time in the band was coming to an end and would not be playing on this final tour. Also just as before, legendary bassist Mike Watt would step in and fill the absence left by LeNoble. As a late addition to the lineup, Canadian keyboardist Robin Hatch is touring with Porno For Pyros which was pointed out a few times by the lead singer to the hometown audience.
The set list at History contained a mix of the Porno for Pyros classics like “Pets” and “Tahitian Moon” but the band did play their brand new singles “Agua” and “Little Me.”
The show in Toronto wasn’t the band’s final Canadian appearance as they are still scheduled to play in Vancouver, BC in the coming weeks but the occasion was still an emotional performance for the band and the fans in attendance.
Porno For Pyros is in my top 10 list of all-time rock bands so it’s needless to say I considered it a privilege to cover this historic show.
Joining P4P on this tour was UK-based rock band Tiger Cub who is scheduled to open on all the concert dates for this tour.
