“Memoirs of the Godmother of Canadian Country Music…Johnny Reid Changed My Life” Is Available Now
Mary Rae Knapp, aka Godmother of Canadian Country Music, put pen to paper to share the stories of how, at age 48, her life changed. That is the year she met Canada’s much-awarded singer Johnny Reid. She went from an insurance broker grandmother to a merchandise seller, fan club organizer, emcee, festival volunteer, and then organizer, all the while being a friend to emerging Canadian country singers.
In her memoir, you will hear about her journey with Johnny Reid and then with Brett Kissel and various other artists including Terry Sumsion, Craig Curtis, and Curtis Country. Included are chapters on the CCMA (Canadian Country Music Association) weeks, and the CMAO (Country Music Association of Ontario) giving the reader insight into the goings on there.
Locally, Mary Rae has belonged to the Joshua Bates Centre for over 25 years. She mentions artists who have performed there in their seasons as well as those who came as part of the Festival of Small Halls.
The last chapter tells the reader how she obtained the title of Godmother.
