Kevin Hearn Shares Remixed, Remastered, And Never Before Heard Musical Origins With High School Band The Glacials
Barenaked Ladies’ multi-instrumentalist, Kevin Hearn, has played in a number of bands and artists throughout his career. From the Rheostatics to the Look People, to the late greats Gord Downie and Lou Reed. And now, with his latest single, “BUS BUS OR NO BUS,” Hearn is looking back to where it all began – with his high school band, The Glacials.
Originally recorded in 1988 to a four-track tape that was unearthed in a now-vintage Mr. Sub bag, the long-lost eclectic single was restored and remixed and arrives with a delightful music video, sourced from the band’s high school yearbooks; as a tribute to the early experimentation of music in the 80s.
“We were really close friends, and it was our mutual interest in music that brought us together,” Hearn said in a press release.
All classically trained and identically clad in the unmistakable uniform of St. Michael’s Choir School in Toronto, he said that he and his high school friends, Anthony Brown, Rich Brown Dave Szanto, and Anthony Zarb, were almost inseparable through their teen years in the 80s.
“I think it’s a reconnection to memories of a time when I was falling in love with music, and still exploring and learning about it – before I knew anything about the music business,” he laughs. “It’s just so joyous and innocent to me in that way.”
