The Once Share “The Bend” From Upcoming Album, Out Here
Newfoundland’s The Once has shared the second single, “The Bend,” from their forthcoming album, Out Here, set for release on February 16th. Their first studio album in over six years, Out Here has already topped CBC Music’s and Exclaim!’s 2024 most anticipated album lists. The Out Here Album Tour starts on March 21st at NAC, Ottawa. Lyrically, The Once’s newest collection of songs encompasses an arresting sense of loss with the belief that the good can be found in all people, and a desire to bring it out here for everyone to enjoy. This material is soaked with the poetic charm and sunny sadness of the trio’s collective disposition as their latest single “The Bend” beautifully illustrates.
Speaking on “The Bend” Geraldine Hollett says,
“Sometimes the tears you cry are dripping with realization. And when you know whatever is in your heart, you know. Follow your own path. Don’t be afraid to leave the old world behind.”
Together Geraldine Hollett, Andrew Dale, and Phil Churchill have collected several Canadian Folk Music Awards, numerous ECMA awards, two JUNO nominations for Roots Album of the Year, and been named Artist of the Year by the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council.
With Out Here, the trio delivers a thoughtful and playful assembly of songs mingling their musical roots from Newfoundland along with folk, bluegrass, country, Americana, and modern indie rock. The group has created a sound representative of their home province of Newfoundland while pushing the boundaries on the great Canadian songbook with their soothing vocal harmony and acoustically rich core.
