Last Friday, English electronic music band Depeche Mode brought their Memento Mori World Tour to Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC
Young Fathers, an indie Scottish group formed in Edinburgh in 2008, opened the night. They got everyone in the right mindset for what was to come.
A bit before 9pm, Depeche Mode arrived on stage under the screams of the audience. Depeche Mode is now touring as a duo (Martin Gore and Dave Gahan) since the death of bandmate Andrew Fletcher last year. They paid tribute to Fletcher during “World In My Eyes”, his favourite song.
Depeche Mode played five songs from their latest album “Momento Mori”, but also focused on more well-known tracks from their four-decade long catalog, like “Enjoy The Silence”, “Personal Jesus”, “Just Can’t Get Enough” and “Everything Counts”. Despite both members being over 60 now, they’re not showing signs of slowing down, striking many poses on stage throughout the show. Dave Gahan seemed to channel Mick Jagger with his energy.
At the end of the night, it’s safe to say that the audience couldn’t get enough of the synth-rock band! Depeche Mode will finish the North American leg of the tour on December 17 in Los Angeles before going back to Europe until April 2024.
