OurGlassZoo – Five Questions With

OurGlassZoo Drop Official “Free Remix” (feat. KutMasta Kurt, Moka Only & Prevail) Music Video

A fresh mix of electronic rock with a few drops of synth-pop are the secret ingredients of the Vancouver-based band, OurGlassZoo. In 2022, they released their album, Aftermath, which included the single “Free” in collaboration with JUNO-award-winning hip-hop artist Prevail (Swollen Members). The track was remixed by producer KutMasta Kurt (Linkin Park, Beastie Boys) and features hip-hop legend Moka Only.

This all-star team has come together again for “Free Remix” with a catchy hook, a retro vibe, and a powerful message about equality that encourages freeing yourself from stereotypes and moving forward as one.

The music video calls to the ’80s and ’90s, directed by Diego Lara & Josias Tschanz.

OurGlassZoo has been nominated for, and won, multiple international Music Video Awards (Munich Music Video Awards, The Berlin Short Film Festival, Rome Music Video Awards, Vancouver Independent Film Festival, Prague Music Video Awards).

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Sure! We are OurGlassZoo, a local band from Vancouver. Thanks for having us back on Canadian Beats. We love how supportive you are of indie bands and that you provide such a great platform for artists.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Our most recent release is a music video for our remix of the single ‘FREE’, which was produced by KutMasta Kurt, who has done remixes for notable acts such as Linkin Park and the Beastie Boys to name a few. It includes mesmerizing performances by Juno award-winning hip hop artists Prevail (‘Swollen Members’) and Moka Only. The video was released through the radial channel by SONY Orchard and has gained a lot of momentum and press so far.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

Yes! We have a video release show at the Fox Cabaret in Vancouver on Friday, November 24th. We will perform with Prevail and will share the stage with our friends Caleb Hart, who is a fantastic reggae artist originally from Trinidad & Tobago. We will play with Caleb again on December 15th at the Capitol Ballroom in Victoria.

If given the chance, which Canadian artist would you love to work with in the future?

We are currently recording a new EP at Monarch Studios and are collaborating with two of our favourite artists – O.K.A, who is our electronic collaborator, and Rachael Schroeder, who is a true talent. Together we wrote a song called ‘Home’ which will be one of our singles in the New Year.

As for other Canadian artists we would love to collaborate in the future – there are many talented Canadian artists – but of the big ones Metric, Dear Rouge and Mother Mother come to mind.

What’s your goal for 2024?

We are excited to release our new EP and then go on a tour. We are working with our UK tour manager (Gemma Downes) to finalize our tour in the UK and get into a bigger festival, which is very exciting. We are also planning on teaming up with our friends the Two Romans, which is a talented Swiss band, and hopefully do a few shows with them as well.
