Preparations for the 2024 JUNO Awards have begun in Halifax!
Taking place on March 24, 2024, from Halifax’s Scotiabank Centre, the 2024 JUNO Awards will be hosted by none other than JUNO Award-winning singer, songwriter, and pop idol, Nelly Furtado. Furtado, who won the first of her 10 JUNO Awards in 2001, boasts over 20 billion global streams and the sale of over 35 million albums worldwide; and previously hosted the 2007 JUNO Awards in Saskatoon.
In addition, it was announced that the Godfather of Canadian Hip-Hop, Maestro Fresh Wes, will become the first hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as part of the broadcast. Wes Williams, (AKA Maestro Fresh Wes), made history as the first Black Canadian artist to achieve gold and platinum status in the country; and has two JUNO Award wins (Best Rap Recording of the Year and Best Video), an additional 12 JUNO Award nominations, and his classic hit “Let Your Backbone Slide” was a 2019 inductee into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Legendary sister duo, Tegan and Sara, will also be honoured by Academy Award-nominated actor and Halifax native, Elliot Page, with the prestigious 2024 Humanitarian Award. As outspoken advocates for LGBTQ+ equality and gender justice since their debut in 1998, the duo created the Tegan and Sara Foundation to improve the lives of LGBTQ+ women and girls who face socioeconomic and health disadvantages.
Tegan and Sara, Furtado and Maestro Fresh Wes will join Toronto rock sensations, The Beaches, and Montreal pop superstar, Charlotte Cardin, as broadcast performers.
Tickets for the 2024 JUNO Awards Broadcast go on sale to the general public on November 10. They start at $57.50 (including tax plus fees) and are available at ticketmaster.ca/junos. Also available on November 10 will be tickets for JUNOfest Presented by CBC Music; the two-day music festival that will fill more than 10 venues across the city with local Halifax musical talent and 2024 JUNO Award nominees.
