K-Riz Shares Music Video For “Less Is More” From His Album, One Way Ticket

Calgary-based hip-hop artist K-Riz is sharing a new video for “Less is More,” a previously released track that appears on his new album, One Way Ticket via Birthday Cake Records, which debuted in September as one of Bandcamp’s New & Notable releases.

Featuring K-RIz’s calming verses, breathy hooks from Ice Tha One, and hypnotic production courtesy of Junia-T, it’s a moody jam where atmosphere takes precedence, striking a balance between melodic hip-hop and blissful R&B.

Directed by Jason WH and starring Lettisia as the object of K-Riz’s affection, the video depicts the early moments of romance. From night into day, a couple savours every detail of their time together, letting the rest of the world fade into the background.

“’Less is More’ reveals the beautiful things that can come into focus when you’re fully present,” says K-Riz. “It’s about expecting less from the world and when you do that you can appreciate things more. It’s liberating to move through life without expectations.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hello y’all, I am K-Riz and I proudly represent the province of Alberta. I rap, sing, songwriter, and put on a hell of a live show. I rock with a band called The Family. My third full-length album, One Way Ticket, was released in September.

Tell us about the writing process behind your new single, “Less is More.” You worked with Toronto artists Ice Tha One and Junia-T on the release. How was that experience?

The writing process was quite smooth and quick. We were in Junia-T’s studio in downtown Toronto just vibing. Ice Tha One provided that calmness, imagery, and escapism to the song. Junia brought out that bounce to a very chill record, which I feel was hard to do but he executed it with ease. We also had KtheChosen in the studio to bounce ideas off of. He actually put a verse to the song but we felt the song was way too long. His verse does appear on a different song on the album though; it’s called “Come and Go.” The experience was fulfilling because myself, Junia-T, and Ice have been wanting to lock in and work for a while.

You also unveiled a music video to accompany the release, which was directed by Jason WH. What was the highlight of the video shoot?

The highlight of the shoot was the jokes and side conversations. Also building on-screen chemistry with Lettisia was fun. There was a lot of laughing; she’s a vibe to work with and she loves the camera. I’m sure Jason has a bunch of footage of us playing around.

The single comes from your new album, One Way Ticket. A lot of collaborations are featured. What were you looking for in your collaborators for this record?

I just wanted them to shine. I think it’s important to build bridges. Being able to connect musicians/artists from the East and West was the goal. Folks from the East don’t really get to see what kind of musicianship is happening over here in Alberta. Now that we’ve been able to accomplish that, my hope is that we continue to build and work with one another. I would love to see Ice The One and Junia-T out here more, and I’d love to see more artists from this side rock over there.

Last but not least, what else do you have up your sleeve for the remainder of 2023 into 2024?

So far, we have shows locked in Lethbridge on Oct. 21 at the Owl Acoustic Lounge, and Calgary on Nov. 1 for the Ship & Anchor’s Ship Hop night. We are working on putting together an amazing live experience for the album, and we’ll have more shows announced in the coming months.

An instrumental version of the album is also on the way; the musicality on the record is so good, we had to let the music breathe without my voice. We want to continue to excite and bring joy through the music in some innovative ways, so we aren’t going to let up just yet.
