Pony Girl Releases New Single + Video For “Highways” Off Of New LP, Laff It Off Out On October 27
Pony Girl, an Ottawa/Hull-based art-pop collective, who have for several years now, been invigorating stages with a prismatic sound that’s all their own. In 2022, the group released their debut LP with Paper Bag Records (their third album to date) with, Enny One Wil Love You. Pony Girl is now just over a month away from releasing another new record, Laff It Off, set for October 27, 2023, again via Paper Bag Records.
Pony Girl has previewed the new album with two previous singles “I Believe In Nothing” and “Laff It Off,” and today, Pony Girl reveals a brand new single and video for “Highways” featuring animation by Stephanie Kuse.
“Highways are the shape of our hearts and minds as we’re falling in love, expanding roads of connection that stretch out through time”, says the band. “New feelings are so pure and fragile—the song swerves as you get lost, then the backbeat guides you home. The journey’s never a straight line.”
Laff It Off as an album urges you to let go, a playful departure from the shade of its sister album Enny One Wil Love You. Its spirited title track chants “I don’t wanna be working every day” over and over, rejecting labour and floating on with the tentative smile of those yellow happy face balloons. Playful fingerpicking gives way to surging synths for an opener as catchy as it is cathartic. You’re in Pony Girl’s world now.
See Pony Girl at POP Montreal next week, and the collective has also confirmed a few additional club shows around Ontario this November. All dates are on sale now and listed below.
