Rising Indie Folk Artist Daniel James McFadyen to Release New EP Songs to Show Your Friends on October 13th
Nova Scotia-based indie folk artist Daniel James McFadyen has announced the release of his new EP titled Songs to Show Your Friends, set to hit all streaming platforms on October 13th via Canary Minor Music.
A musical departure from McFadyen’s previous “Stomp and Holler” folk tunes, Songs to Show Your Friends is a 5-track EP that introduces intricate melodies and compelling instrumentation — a result of the singer-songwriter’s creative partnership with Montreal-based producer Quinn Bachand. With a renewed approach guiding his sound, McFadyen continues to explore topics of love, loss, adventure, and feelings of home, all of which have defined his presence in the indie folk and rock worlds.
When asked about the idea behind the title of the EP, Daniel explained,
“I’ve spent the past year on the road, crossing paths with so many incredible Canadian musicians whom I look up to greatly. Touring has shown me that good music spreads through word of mouth, and my hope is that this EP offers something that my circle can’t resist passing on to their friends… And just in case, I figured I’d give everyone a nudge by making that suggestion right in the title.”
McFadyen has revealed three singles in lead-up to the EP, the latest of which is a heartwarming duet titled “Find My Way to You” featuring Darragh Jessome. Landing a coveted editorial placement on Spotify’s Folk & Friends playlist, the track is complemented by a stunning live performance video, shot in Nova Scotia’s Gaspereau Valley by Andrew Rhodenizer.
Amidst a year of remarkable growth, Songs to Show Your Friends arrives following McFadyen’s highly successful national tour, which included performances at the 35th annual East Coast Music Awards in Halifax, Canada’s prestigious music discovery festival NXNE, and a sold-out show at Toronto’s iconic Horseshoe Tavern. Furthering this momentum, McFadyen recently received two nominations at Music Nova Scotia’s upcoming 2023 Music & Industry Awards. These nominations include Entertainer of the Year and Folk/Roots Recording of the Year, both in recognition of the new EP.
To commemorate the highly-anticipated release, Songs to Show Your Friends will come to life on stage at Halifax’s renowned Marquee Ballroom on October 20th, in the company of two fellow Nova Scotia-based acts. The evening will kick off with an opening set from Steel Cut Oats, later followed by an afterparty performance by Rankin MacInnis & The Broken Reeds. A limited quantity of pre-sale tickets to the show are available here.
