Ontario-based singer-songwriter Arih SK is back with a new single, “Nearer,” following his previous releases, “Reluctant Heart” and “Hold It Together.” Recorded and Mixed by Amanda Parker at Two Flamingo Studio. Mastered by Siegfried Meier at Beach Road Mastering.
Arih shares,
“It could be the wind up in the pine trees. The wood paneling at the cottage. The first cicada call. The smell of cedar. However it gets evoked, that feeling of being close to someone again is always so fleeting. Nearer is about that feeling and the happy and sad thoughts that go along with it. With time, it becomes less pronounced, but this is a double-edged sword. There is less sadness, but other things become harder to remember too.”
Review
From the start, “Nearer” makes you feel a deep sense of longing and nostalgia. The lyrics really drive home the emotions, and they’ll hit home for anyone who’s ever missed someone they love.
The opening lines “If I had your strength maybe I could squeeze, The last drops from these memories,” and the recurring desire for things to become clearer, express the emotional challenge of staying connected to someone who’s no longer here
The lyrics are artfully crafted, evoking powerful emotions through metaphors and vivid imagery, making the song deeply relatable for listeners.
Overall, the laid-back rhythm is the perfect vehicle for the shared vocals from Arih SK and bassist, Amanda Parker. The two are accompanied by Mark Hoerdt on drums and Ryan Etherington on lead guitar. The track effectively captures the well-known feeling of trying to keep special memories alive as time goes on, making it a tune that many people can connect with.
