Award Winning Country Artist Steven Lee Olsen Made Grand Ole Opry Debut in July

GRAMMY Award-nominated Canadian powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Steven Lee Olsen made his Grand Ole Opry Debut on July 23, 2023.

Watch the video for “Outta Yours” below and learn more about Steven via our mini-interview.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

The name is Steven Lee Olsen, but my friends call me SLO.

You made your official Grand Ole Opry debut on July 23, how does it feel to reach this milestone?

It has felt so surreal. It still hasn’t sunk in just yet. When I moved to Nashville that was always one of the biggest goals on my list but it always felt so far out of reach. I always say playing at the Opry is like going to the moon because so many people want to go but not everyone gets that chance. The fact that I was given that opportunity to stand in the circle where so many of my heroes have stood means more to me than I could ever explain.

You recently unveiled your single, “Outta Yours.” Tell us a bit about the writing process behind the release.

I released “Outta Yours” in January the night I kicked off the Old Dominion ‘No Bad Vibes Tour’. This song was always one of my favourites and I knew I had to release it. I went on a writing retreat back in 2022 with my good buddies Corey Crowder and Brandon Day, to write songs for my own project and we wrote three songs that weekend. When we sat down to write “Outta Yours” we drank a little whiskey and reminisced about past breakups and this song fell out.

You’ve worked alongside many Canadian and International artists throughout your career, but is there someone you’d like to work with who you haven’t yet?

I’ve always wanted to work with Tori Kelly. Her vocal ability is next level.

Originally from Toronto, but living in Nashville for quite some time now, what is something you miss about the music scene in Toronto?

One thing I always love about going back to Toronto is the closeness of the music community in Canada. The CCMA’s specifically always feels like a high school reunion.

Last but not least, what else do you have up your sleeve for 2023?

I could not be more excited for 2023. It’s been a wild ride so far starting off the year releasing “Outta Yours,” touring with Old Dominion and Whiskey Jam, and then playing two shows on Luke Combs’ stadium tour on the west coast. I’m excited to release new music at the end of this month and get back out on the road.
