Void Comp Shares New EP and Single, “High Relief”
“High Relief ” is the new single from the EP Metropol by Void Comp – the solo project of Edmonton-based musician David Julé. The song features lush synths, thick bass, and ethereal vocals that float over a pulsating electronic drum groove. Dark, spaced-out rhythms build up and release into a spacious chorus with an ear-catching vocal hook. Inspired by artists such as Tame Impala and Thom Yorke, the music of Void Comp is entirely written and recorded by Julé on his own – where he plays all the parts and takes on the roles of musician, producer, and mix engineer.
Written after moving to Edmonton from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, the song’s lyrics deal with themes such as isolation, anxiety, and apprehension toward new relationships. It holds a mirror up to the listener and leaves you in a state of reflection, prompted by the chorus hook “You turn away and hide your face, Is that the way you wanna stay”. “High Relief” proves to be a banger that you can both dance and cry to.
Void Comp is the project of Canadian multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter David Julé. Growing up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Julé turned to music as a means of self-expression and as an escape from the mundaneness of small-town life. Deciding to pursue music more seriously, the young artist moved to Vancouver, BC, and enrolled in a music production program at a local college. After playing in multiple bands with limited success, he decided to begin a new solo project. Void Comp began in 2021 with the release of the debut single “Come My Way” quickly followed by the EP Last Days.
