Toronto Indie/pop Band Jiants Makes It “Real Easy” To Start Your New Life
Jiants is a three-piece indie/pop band from Toronto led by the songwriting of ex-professional skateboarder Jesse Landen. Jiants performs a unique blend of nostalgic-sounding low-fi indie pop songs complete with great hooks and soaring leads. The band has just finished their fourth album, Tall Tales. The record was engineered and produced by Gavin Gardiner and is set to be released in late 2023.
“Real Easy” is about learning to be comfortable alone, making time to heal before you attempt to move into a new phase of yourself. Living your true self is extremely difficult and it’s something that usually takes many attempts. This song is for the first morning you wake up after deciding “your new life starts today” for the third time this week and choosing to just keep trying instead of beating yourself up about it.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m Jesse Landen, a singer-songwriter from Toronto-based indie/pop band Jiants.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
We just released our first single “Real Easy” from our new upcoming record called “Tall Tales”.
It was released along with a music video shot on a 16mm film by our friend Nathan Brown. Each scene throughout the video was mostly shot in a single take in order to keep the cost of the film lower. This led to a fun way of rehearsing each scene a couple of times and then filming it just once. No pressure!
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
I mean I definitely just pull it from my life but I also try to practice a daily writing routine that kind of takes the edge off trying to sit down and just “make something awesome”. That way there is a bit less pressure on ideas and the good ones just sort of happen in between the mediocre ones. Rember “Inspiration exists but it has to find you working!” – Pablo Picasso
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
We have a couple of out-of-town shows in the works for the fall but most importantly I’d say our record release show at The Monarch Tavern on November 11th! We would love to see you there 🙂
What’s your goal for 2023?
Honestly, most of the first part of this year was recording and mixing this record. Recently it’s been all about making music videos and some new merch. I think for the rest of the year we are just playing shows and trying to promote our new record “Tall Tales”. I’m really proud of this one. In the past, we’ve definitely struggled to develop a consistent audience but I think with how much the band still enjoys playing and the quality of our new music thanks to Gavin Gardiner at All Day Coconut Studios. Hopefully, we can get some new people to take the time to listen and enjoy this with us.
