Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Jim aka Mudd, Bass player and founding member of the Canadian punk band Random Killing.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
“Bring Out Your Dead” was recorded during the Covid years. We were approached by Al from Cursed Blessings who asked if we wanted to release a 7”.
After hearing the original recordings, I guess he was impressed because he asked if we wanted to up it to a full-length 12” record. So we wrote and recorded a few more, and that’s how it all came about. All the songs were written, recorded, and mixed ourselves.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
Musically we always tried to mix it up style-wise. It’s not just straight-up Punk or hardcore, some songs lean more to the metal side of things while others are more rock or Rock’n roll. One song on the record even has some reggae influences mixed in. Lyrically the same thing, human rights, and environmental issues are always important along with observations of day-to-day life. I also like to include one or two fun songs just to round things off.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
We just got back from a western Canada tour with the Dayglo Abortions, Victoria to Toronto 16 shows, 16 nights. The response was fantastic, to say the least! At the moment the only upcoming shows are July 8th in Oshawa, July 15th at Spiderfest, Sept 23rd in Toronto.
What’s your goal for 2023?
Next year is our 40th so we’ll hopefully be recording another record as well as another Canadian tour for that. Time flies when you’re having fun.
