Multi-platinum recording artist Fefe Dobson revisits her pop-punk roots with the edgy new single, “HUNGOVER,” released globally today via 21 Entertainment.
Fefe Dobson’s brand new single “HUNGOVER” is the latest release from her forthcoming project (via 21 Entertainment Group) expected to be released later this year. The song penned by Fefe herself, alongside producer Sam Arion (Mute Choir, Neon Trees, Jagwar Twin) is a drum and guitar-driven punk anthem that Dobson describes as a, ”fun summer anthem about a wild night of uninhibited fun and the aftermath that follows the next day. I think we’ve all had a night like that where we try to remember or try to forget!” The sound is a return to Fefe’s earlier albums, combining angsty lyricism and unapologetic punk/rock-driven production like the live recorded drums in this new single.
In late 2021 international artists like Willow Smith, and Olivia Rodrigo made a big impact with their rock-driven pop anthems across social media and radio charts. This shift in sound among the younger generation cracked the door back open for pioneers like Fefe to be reintroduced and acknowledged for the groundwork they laid years prior. As NYLON Magazine thoughtfully notes “Dobson inspired Black alternative kids who saw themselves in her.” Even SZA listed Fefe’s music as an influence for her #1-selling album SOS. The revival of nostalgia in modern pop music is apparent and Fefe’s earnest lyricism and edgy pop/rock sound, reminiscent of the aughts, is on the cusp of resurfacing into the 2020s.
In early 2022, Fefe made her triumphant and welcomed return to music with her catchy pop anthem “FCKN IN LOVE” which climbed to the top 15 at Canadian radio charts, followed up by the buzz single ‘Recharge My Heart’ in late Fall of the same year. Fefe now readies her new album, inspired by different eras of her own music catalog to pay homage to her influences over the years and really celebrate her own legacy in the alt space as a BIPOC female artist.
