Haviah Mighty Drops Genre-Bending Earworm Single, “Huh”
Haviah Mighty is ready to heat things up this summer, and today she does just that with her new single, “Huh.” Melodic, genre-bending, and absolutely undeniable, “Huh” combines hard-hitting drums and chest-rumbling bass with sultry vocals, weaving through elements of hip-hop, house/dance, and R&B. With a lyrical theme that’s centred around melancholy, the minor chord progressions combined with the driving percussion take us from dark to light–forcing the narrator to see a new light, new people, new energies.
“Huh is a tale of disappointment – following the narration of a desperate lover who is losing the love of their life, and vowing to change to reverse it all,” Haviah shares of the intricate story weaved throughout the infectious track. “Desperate to go back to how it was, they’re taking responsibility for the incompatibility, and suffering a mind/body separation of sorts-where their mind is wrapped up in the traumatic loss, unable to escape, but their body is free and has been let loose. They are living in two spaces, two worlds, and trying to return to perceived ‘stability,’ where ironically, what they want to return to, is the most unstable thing in their life.”
Produced by Haviah and Taabu, the song was curated during a long, long studio session, flipping many samples from old sessions and throwaway beats.
“What started as a harmonized vocal sample of my own voice, combined with a couple of pre-existing demos, was eventually carved out into what Huh is today,” Haviah adds.
“Huh” is the latest release from the multi-award-winning artist, DJ, and producer, who has been trickling out new music throughout the year, showcasing a sample of what will be featured on her forthcoming full-length project. Listen to the previously released, Honey Bun and Room Service, which were accompanied by a cinematic double-feature video.
