LTtheMonk shares new single, “2 & A Half”
Hamilton-via-London, UK artist LTtheMonk fuses dance music with hip-hop and pop to create his own unique sound.
His new track, “2 & A Half,” reflects on the end of a long-term relationship, finding LT admitting that a lot of his ‘growth’ in love hasn’t been realized. It’s a song of accountability for immature behaviour with a soulful inflection that imbues feelings of nostalgia for this past love.
Harlem-based producer, J-Track, collaborated with LT on “2 & A Half,” which blends hip-hop verses and R&B production with a groove inspired by the late 80s and early 90s era of new jack swing.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is LTtheMonk. I am a musician originally from London, UK, and since 2017 I have been living in Canada, originally settling in Hamilton and now living in Toronto. I make a style of music that is a blend of dance, hip-hop, and R&B, along with rapping and singing I love to dance every chance I get, from in my music videos to when I’m performing on stage!
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
“2 & A Half” is the story of a breakup I had after being in a relationship for two and a half years, and it talks about how despite missing someone and being nostalgic for the time you had together, some couples are just not meant to be. I think whether you’ve been heartbroken, the heartbreaker, or you’ve just had strong feelings for someone that didn’t pan out in the way you wanted them to, you’ll be able to relate to the emotions I’m getting across in the song, as love stories like this are a part of all of our journeys.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
I pull inspiration from everywhere — my own experiences, conversations with friends or anybody I really engage with, even just going for a walk and observing the world around me. There are so many stories to tell, I’m just finding out which ones I think are the most worth telling from my perspective.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
I have shows planned in a few different cities through the summer, from Toronto to Hamilton, to Montreal, and London (ON), so I would say please follow me on my Instagram (@LTtheMonk) where you will get all the info you need for when I will be performing in your city!
What’s your goal for 2023?
My goal for 2023 is to keep releasing these new songs that I love, and that I think people will love, and to promote them to get them heard by as many people as possible! The ‘New Monk Swing’ sound has been born, and I hope that people will enjoy hearing it.
