Sit back and enjoy Zach’s Picks of the Week
Happy Music Monday to all of my music-loving compatriots. You are back on the website that brings you the best Canadian music every week, and today is no different. Because it is Monday, we’ve got Zach’s Picks of the Week. These are going to be my top five recommendations that I have chosen from Canadian Beats Media, the Canadian music website that you should already be following. This week’s video below shows a clip from these recommendations. You can check out these incredible articles when you scroll down in this post and find the link to each one. Please check out the video that I work so hard on each week. Now let’s get into the new music and kick things off with my fifth recommendation of the week.
Five
Let’s begin our list with an incredible group called GreenWing, who are proud to announce the release of their new single, “Dark.” It’s available on all streaming platforms but builds upon the groundwork laid by the band’s 2022 debut album. That embodied an overarching sense of pop lyricism against a hard-hitting rhythm section and slamming guitars. The new single was self-produced by the band at Rainy Day Recording Co. Read our single review and listen to the track here.
Four
Next up, it’s Montreal-based singer-songwriter Roxane Reddy. Her debut solo album, Jaywalking, is available everywhere and was produced in collaboration with Charles-David Dubé. This intense yet velvety LP represents our view of life after overcoming depression. The album was recorded at Studio Pierre Marchand and features many incredible songs, including “Wilted,” which is just one of my favourites from this new record. Nothing is stopping you from exploring all of Roxane’s debut album, Jaywalking, for yourself. So please get to know Roxane Reddy in our Five Questions With segment here.
Three
Now we’ve made it to the number three pick of the week, PLATINUM-certified country artist, songwriter, and producer Dan Davidson. Back with an irresistible’ 80s-infused single, “If These Streets Could Talk.” Davidson has created his own irresistible brand of modernized country with the perfect amount of pop nostalgia backing it up. This new single will set the pace for the new brand of country Davidson has in store from his upcoming album Nineteen Eighty Something, slated to drop later this year. But for now, head over to our article, where you can listen to the new single, “If These Streets Could Talk,” here.
Two
So it’s time for the top two, so come on down, International touring artist and award-winning singer-songwriter Matt Epp. His 13th album is Rolling Wave; the latest single, “Live Free,” is featured this week. His confessional songwriting and intimate performance style gained him a worldwide following, and he won the 2017 Grand Prize at this International Songwriting Competition. He had recorded mostly alone in this beautiful converted rural “Art Church” on the shores of Lake Huron. This place helped make “Rolling Wave,” Epp recounts his spiritual journey amid the pandemic-era isolation. Please go and listen to Matt Epp’s new single “Live Free” and check out our interview with him here.
One
It’s time for my final choice of this week, which will go to Canadian pop artist Kyle Richardson. Who’s excited to share his new single “Can You Hear Me,” which can be found across all streaming platforms. Richardson and fellow Canadians Andrew Allen and Grammy-nominated Jeff Dawson wrote the track. This new single will be on Richardson’s debut album, Louder Than Words, which arrives later this year. This with be our review of his latest single, so don’t waste any time and check out “Can You Hear Me” by Kyle Richardson here.
