Last night, a star-studded punk lineup was in Montreal with The Interrupters and Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls co-headlining a show at a sold-out Olympia!

The evening started early (around 7.30pm) with Chuck Ragan, in front of an audience that was already quite packed! On stage with a friend playing the pedal steel guitar, the Hot Water Music member performed a wonderful acoustic set. The sounds of his acoustic guitar let his raw, almost guttural voice really shine through, and this folk-punk-rock opening act was a great way to set the tone for the night!

Up next, Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls arrived onstage at 8.30pm. If you’ve ever been to a Frank Turner show, you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say that the energy in the venue immediately shifted. After telling the crowd the three rules for his show (#1: Don’t be a d*ck, #2: If you know the words, sing along ; #3: Take care of each other), Frank embarked on a one-hour show that was absolutely delightful. The UK folk-punk singer has an absolutely contagious energy on stage, that had the crowd singing along from Punches to Four Simple Words.

Finally, around 10pm, The Interrupters begin their set with a bang, to the sounds of Take Back the Power. The band, made up of brothers Jesse, Justin and Kevin, is fronted by Aimee Allen, aka Aimee Interrupter. Everyone’s energy is absolutely unmatched, as Justin jumps around as if he was mounted on a spring, and Aimee spends her time perched on boxes on the stage, or leaning off the edge of the stage to interact with her fans. The atmosphere in the venue is just silly fun, with more crowd surfers and mosh pits per minute than we could count! The evening ends with the explosive She’s Kerosene, and if the California’s ska-punk band’s good vibes wasn’t the perfect way to end the week, I don’t know what is!
