Canada’s SOVEREIGN COUNCIL Unveils Their Album, World On Fire
Canada’s Sovereign Council embraces metal head-on, with all of its throttling guitar riffs, intense bass lines, driving drums, and fluctuating vocals that are at times guttural and at others more mellow and introspective. They have two albums under their belts thus far, and the third World On Fire is out now, for those looking for the next thing in power metal. The EP was written and composed from a place of love and vulnerability to show a different side of the band who have adjusted their lineup and musical trajectory since their last album, Laniakea.
They explain:
“We feel that the sound we have created here is still at its core very “Sovereign Council” but has matured and developed into something greater. We are extremely proud of this new sound and cannot wait to see how people respond to it. We have another set of songs nearly completed as well; these new songs continue our new direction and add another new edge as well as a heavier feel. You’ll have to stick around for the next release to find out what that edge is.”
For this EP, the band picked five of their strongest tracks which follow the same feel and give listeners a cohesive listening experience through a range of emotions and imagery ranging from inspiring, motivational lyrics to darker subject matter.
The EP was produced by guitarist Joe Moon, mixed and mastered by Silver Wings Studios, and the EP cover artwork was done by Martin Trottier. Melodic and powerful, Sovereign Council puts a distinct spin on progressive power metal. They will be enjoyed by those who have Lacuna Coil, Evergrey, and Evanescence in their rotation.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We are a Canadian melodic metal band called Sovereign Council. We are based in the Kingston and Ottawa area in Ontario. We formed in 2011 and have grown and changed dramatically over the years. After a brief hiatus through Covid, we have gotten back at it and are releasing our newest EP, World on Fire.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
This EP is the first release with our current line-up. It is an emotional story based on real-life experiences and situations. We aimed to create powerful and emotional songs both musically and lyrically. We’re really excited for the world to hear it and we genuinely hope that people enjoy it.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
We have so many musical influences that it would be impossible to list them all. But generally speaking, we aim to create music that excites us. If we get that goosebumps feeling, then we know we’re on the right track. We are very picky with melodies and guitar riffs, if something doesn’t feel right we cut it and start again.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
We don’t have any upcoming shows booked at this time. We plan to book a small tour for the summer and fall months to promote our new World On Fire EP.
What’s your goal for 2023?
Our main focus right now is promoting our new EP World On Fire. That being said, we are already working on our next release and will be focusing on that. We are aiming to bring our music to as many listeners as possible.
