The East Pointers – ECMA 2023 Nominees (Interview)

Prince Edward Island’s The East Pointers are nominated for six awards at the 2023 East Coast Music Awards, including Contemporary Roots Recording of the Year, Group Recording of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, TD Fans’ Choice Entertainer of the Year, and more!

When speaking about the EP, House of Dreams, Tim Chaisson admits,

“Koady would be pissed if we didn’t get these songs out to the world.”

“We can still feel Koady’s excitement about the new songs and that’s what continues to drive this band forward,” adds Jake Charron.

On January 6, 2022, Koady Chaisson ––beloved husband, cherished family member of the massive Chaisson clan of Souris, Prince Edward Island, multi-skilled musician and entertainer, adored mentor, and heart-of-gold friend to many––passed away from an unexpected heart aneurysm at the age of 37.

Most of the tracks on House of Dreams were recorded in 2021 and were born out of pandemic downtime and the desire to always be pushing forward.

“I felt right away that these songs needed to happen because this was all that Koady talked about,” describes Jake.

“There are all these questions about the future,” adds Tim, “but for now, at least, we need to give this a shot. Because we know Koady would want that.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are The East Pointers 🙂

Tell us a bit about your newest release.

Our latest release is an EP called “House Of Dreams,” a collection of songs we wrote and recorded throughout the pandemic in Charlottetown, PEI. It’s very special to us, as it was the last recording sessions we had with our bandmate and best friend, Koady. He (and us) was very proud of these songs, and we’re all honoured to have received so much love for it❤️

You’re nominated for an East Coast Music Award this year. Is this your first time being nominated?

We have been nominated before, but not for this many!

Are you performing anywhere during the festivities from May 3-7? If so, where?

We are! Alderney Landing, Saturday, May 6.

Are there any specific events through the weekend that you are excited to check out?

To be honest, I haven’t checked out the full schedule yet, but I love the random stumbling upon amazing music at every corner. Almost better not to plan!

Who would you choose if you could work with any fellow East Coast artist?

Oh geeeeeez, tough question! My latest music obsession is Jah’Mila. She’s so great.

Do you have any upcoming shows besides the ECMAs to tell us about?

We’re actually currently in Louisiana for a slew of shows and festivals with 6 Hearts (a collaboration with Pascal and Emmanuelle of Vishten), but after ECMA’s, there are some summer festivals and a CDN tour in the fall (and some other exciting stuff beyond!).

What’s next for you in 2023?

Summer festivals, new music, and a Canadian tour in the fall.
