Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

My name is Jill McKenna, I am the founder of Marivon, and my friends are cooler than your friends.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Rooted in singer-songwriting amongst a landscape of improvisation, Marivon is a project I have been
collecting for many years. Challenging the way an album can be structured, None of this is Mine
features 14 musicians from all across the spectrum of music. We unapologetically traverse genres from
singer-songwriter to jazz to hip-hop and back again with some of my favourite human beings, who also
happen to be some of the artists I admire most.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

This record was inspired by connecting seemingly unrelated things. Noticing the song structure in the
soil when growing carrots or the groove within a cup of coffee, I am so inspired by those moments of
realization and discovery; expressing this feeling inspired this album’s structure. I get all of
my song inspiration from the people and places by which I am surrounded. My career has taken me from
Hamilton to New York to Banff to Nelson and so many amazing little places in between where I am
constantly meeting the best people with the coolest perspectives.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

I had a lot of fun designing this album for you to enjoy wherever you listen to music (preferably in one
sitting), but I’m not sure that this project is a touring act. I am very fortunate to be touring and playing bass for a few different artists, and that’s where you can find me. I also will be having an in-person vinyl
release party this summer – subscribe to my newsletter to stay up to date!

What’s your goal for 2023?

At this very moment, I just want to learn a bunch of bluegrass tunes on the mandolin and keep obsessing
about coffee. I love making music and whether I am writing my own, or helping someone else bring their
music into existence, I hope I can just keep doing that as much as possible. I feel incredibly lucky.
