Tinge unveils their 5-song EP, Big Deep Sigh

The songs of Veronica Blackhawk (they/she), an Anishinaabe multi-hyphenate from Lake of the Woods Ontario, have been compared to the likes of Big Thief and Julien Baker. But according to Adam Fuhr, head of House of Wonders Records, the unique story and voice of Blackhawk contribute to the singular nature of their music and the sense “that [Blackhawk] may well turn out to be one of the finest songwriters in the province.”

Tinge‘s debut collection of songs, Big Deep Sigh are as raw and sorrowful as they are catchy and vast and was released on March 3, 2023, via House of Wonders Records.

Big Deep Sigh was produced, engineered, and mixed by Adam Fuhr and mastered by Donavan Ostopawich at House of Wonders.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi! We’re Tinge – we consist of Veronica Blackhawk on guitar and vocals, Jordan Tait on bass, and Lincoln Brown on drums. We’re an Indie Rock trio that makes emotional music driven by confessional lyricism and dynamic song structures.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

Big Deep Sigh is our 5-song introductory EP from House of Wonders Records. The songs – accumulated over years of quiet bedroom writing, felt like holding in a deep breath for far too long. I exhaled, and out came the biggest, deepest sigh I had ever released.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

While the topics of mental health and identity are common in the songs – the larger sense narrates my experience as a young Indigenous person navigating and healing through intergenerational trauma.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

On March 30, we’re playing CKUW’s FUNDrive wrap-up party at the Good Will Social Club in Winnipeg.

What’s your goal for 2023?

To sigh just a little less, touch as many hearts & change as many minds as possible.
