Matt Holubowski shares “Sandy Cove” in advance of his upcoming album
Matt Holubowski, the acclaimed Montreal-based singer/songwriter, offers us “Sandy Cove,” the third single from his forthcoming new album, Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn, available on Audiogram on March 24 and available for PRE-ORDER now.
“Sandy Cove” is just one of the album tracks that carries us along for several minutes and holds us close in a dreamy soundscape.
Following previous singles, “End Scene,” released in November 2022, and “My Burrow,” released at the beginning of the year, Matt offers a subtle yet richly textured musical journey in his newest single, “Sandy Cove.” Lyrically, it offers an intense perspective of trying to understand our actions in some of our darkest moments. The song helplessly watches a loved one self-destructing: “And when I see you lying there, what is it I should do? Grass grows by the inch, dies by our feet,” he sings, reminding us that anything that takes time to build can still be easily destroyed.
“Sandy Cove” features supporting vocals from Marianne Houle, who also wrote the accompanying strings, then played by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Sarah Pagé plays the koto, an impressive Japanese string instrument. Co-produced with Pietro Amato, who can be heard on farfisa and piano, the piece brings us back to Matt’s faithful accomplices: Marc-André Landry (bass), Stéphane Bergeron (drums and drum programming) and Simon Angell (guitar ).
The song was mixed by Mark Lawson and mastered by Harris Newman. “Sandy Cove” was recorded at Skybarn, Chez Marcel, and in several cabins. The album, Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn, will be released on March 24, and Matt will play a release show in Toronto at The Drake on March 28 and the play Lion d’Or in Montreal on March 30. Matt continues with a succession of shows across Quebec and New Brunswick over May and June and further dates across Canada for the fall. All current dates on sale are listed below.
