Montreal-based indie-rock band Half Moon Run released their first single and video from their upcoming album. “You Can Let Go” is also the band’s first song with their new label – BMG. A clip of the song was teased earlier this week, and it got me and other fans excited for the release, as the sound is quite different from what we have heard from them before. With all three band members – Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, and Dylan Phillips – being talented singers and multi-instrumentalists, they can truly explore and play around with new sounds and harmonies.

Speaking about “You Can Let Go,” lead-vocalist Devon Portielje states,

“In the back of my mind was a beautiful, truthful shouting. A tumultuous, transformative journey through the dark places of the mind towards, hopefully, the light.”

The song was produced by Conner Seidel at Treehouse Studio, and Alex Tomlinson directed the lyric video. There will be more details regarding their upcoming LP at a later date.

Along with the single, there were also tour dates announced! The band already had Europe dates that were rescheduled from last year to Autumn 2023, and a couple of summer festivals in Quebec and George Street Festival in Saint John’s, Newfoundland. The new North American tour dates will have the band traveling across Western and Central Canada, as well as Northern US and down into California. My only complaint with all this excitement is their Canadian shows don’t go further East than Quebec City. So as someone living in Halifax…I am already planning my weekend trip and flight to Ottawa! As someone who has seen them multiple times, I highly HIGHLY recommend everyone to see them if they’re coming to your city! You won’t regret it, even if you are not familiar with their music – as was my situation the first time I saw them open for City and Colour.

See the Canadian dates below, and click here to view the whole list. Fan presale for the new dates begins March 7th (check your email from March 3 if you’re subscribed to their newsletter!), a Spotify presale is the 8th, and general tickets on sale are on the 10th.
