I had the pleasure of attending The Beaches’ sold-out show in Halifax on Friday night, and it was an amazing time! Despite the heavy snow, fans still packed into The Lighthouse Arts Centre. The Toronto-based rock band thought they were coming in to perform at The Seahorse Tavern – which fits about 300 people. They were pleasantly shocked when they found out they actually sold out a 1200-capacity show.
They performed incredibly, with everyone singing and dancing all night. I don’t understand how they can be so active jumping, spinning, and kicking on stage without missing a beat or a note. Their setlist included songs such as Grow Up Tomorrow, Money, My People, Bad Behaviour, Highway 6, and even a cover of Nelly Furtado’s “Maneater.” Their positive energy was infectious, and I would highly recommend seeing them live if you ever get the chance.
Opening for The Beaches was local alternative rock trio June Body, and they definitely know how to get a crowd going while owning the stage. They are also set to perform as part of Halifax’s East Coast Music Awards from May 3rd to 7th.
I’m Shayla, and I was born in Saskatoon but moved to Halifax in 2013 for University, and since decided to stay here for a while. I recently received a Bachelor of Design, after studying photography for a year or two as well. I love everything about music and how it has the ability to bring so many people together from across the country and even the world. My passion for music is one of the reasons I moved East to pursue a photography and design career, as I would love to do graphic design and photography within the Canadian music industry.
