Little Destroyer has shared the unhinged new video for “xbar,” taken from late last year’s 1134. Blurry and provocative, the new video directed by Heather Saitz shares a tantalizing glimpse into the debaucherous world of Little Destroyer tour antics and electrifying live performances. The trio has also announced B.C. tour dates supporting Dune Rats and Chastity this month. Find tickets and tour dates below.
Produced by Howard Redekopp (Mother Mother, Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers), 1134’s blistering collection of tracks sees the enigmatic Vancouver-based threesome at their dramatic grunge-pop best; a powerful sonic explosion of pent-up fury and 00s breezy pop-punk energy of seminal bands like The Kills and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Straddling the line between punk hedonism and pop indulgence, Little Destroyer is a tight-knit trio of creative powerhouses; vocalist, bassist, and songwriter Allie Sheldan, and the brothers Weiss – multi-instrumentalist Chris and drummer Michael. The three are industry veterans with the scars to prove it. No stranger to the exploitations of the music industry nor the house of cards upon which it is built, Little Destroyer have a litany of almost chances, near misses, and lawyer invoices strewn behind them. A break was needed, and the last two years provided the breathing space to reassess and realign.
On stage, frontwoman Allie Sheldan is a dynamic shapeshifter, at times mirroring the unbridled chaos of a 1970s Iggy Pop, while at other moments, like a blue light, introspective and vulnerable. Brothers Michael and Chris Weiss complete the band with huge beats and livewire guitar antics, respectively, rounding out the sound and bringing the type of bond (and rhythm section) that only siblings can. Little Destroyer is proof that creating a pop-punk blitzkrieg is just as much about love and connection as it is about spit and spectacle. The band is working on new music and looks forward to hitting the road in 2023.

I grew up in Alberta, but spent most of my life in British Columbia – I also spent a lot of my summers in Britain as I was lucky enough to have immigrant parents with the capital to go visit our relatives. The amount of time I spent overseas makes it hard for me to say I feel fully Canadian, but it does make me feel typically Canadian as so many of us have mixed parentage. My parents defined another divide in me as I feel inexorably pulled to both science and the art; my father being a doctor and my mother being a school teacher. I studied both in university and now work on making healthcare software during the day, then write/read/draw/paint/dance in my evenings. My global wanderings, my education, and the fact that my appetite for media could be described as ‘voracious’ means my frame of reference is pretty varied. It’s hard to say that I have a favourite music genre, rather I am always seeking sounds that convey a sense earnestness an honesty.
