First off, care to introduce yourself to the readers?

I’m an Americana songwriter known for my lyrics and energetic live performances. I’ve been performing professionally since 2000 and launched my solo career in 2006. I’ve toured all over Europe, the UK, and North America and have released eight studio albums. I’ve won some awards over the years, including a couple of Canadian Folk Music Awards, and I am also obsessed with Giant Pandas.

Tell us a bit about your newest release.

My latest full-length album is called Ice Cream In November, which was released in April 2022. It’s a pretty diverse mix of Americana songs, co-produced with my pal and guitarist extraordinaire Blair Michael Hogan. I’ve also got a brand new single called “Light In Me” that just dropped on January 27 and was featured by iconic roots outlet The Bluegrass Situation in the United States.

You’ll be playing Ottawa’s Ice Dragon Boat Festival in February. Is this your first time performing at the festival?

This will be my first time playing the Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival, and I can’t think of a better way to shake up the mid-winter blues than three weeks of great music at Ottawa’s iconic Rainbow Bistro. I haven’t performed at the Rainbow since the renovations, so I can’t wait to play songs for people this February.

What can people expect from your live performance?

For this show, I’ll be performing as a duo with Ottawa guitarist Blair Michael Hogan. We have a pretty full sound for two people, and we incorporate live loops and percussion into our live shows. We’ll be mostly playing songs from my most recent two albums, as well as a few older favourites.

What other bands/ artist are you looking forward to checking out at the festival?

I am allowed to say ALL OF THEM! Seriously the lineup for this year’s festival is absolutely top-notch, and I want to catch as many of the performances as I can fit into my schedule. If I had to highlight a couple, I’d say Emma Lamongtagne because we’ve been working on a co-write together, and I think she’s fabulous. And Mikhail Laxton, who is starting off our evening at the Rainbow on February 9th … we also have a co-write that we did together, and he did some singing on my most recent album. It’s going to be a great couple of weeks, and I can’t wait!

Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?

I’ve got a pretty active touring schedule, including upcoming tours to Europe and the United States, so I would just direct people to visit my website for all the latest dates on where I’ll be playing and when.
