Zach's Picks

Take a few minutes to find out Zach’s first picks of the week for 2023

Welcome to 2023 everyone, time to see what new incredible music has come out on our website at the beginning of this year. Thank you once again for joining us here on another Music Monday for Zach’s Picks Of The Week. These will be my five favourite articles featured here on our website, Canadian Beats. Although there are so many more things to explore, these are mine that I wanted to share with you. Below you’ll find today’s video full of awesome Canadian content!

Five

Let’s start this list with a Canadian orchestral metal ensemble, Opus Arise, from Vancouver. They just released their sophomore album, The Netwerk, on December 2 last year, and it is available online everywhere. This new record teleports the listeners to a cyberpunk world filled with neon lights punctuated with progressive riffs. The album has a modern metal influence and different composers from their first album. However, be sure to go and visit the article where we have a Five Questions With segment with Opus Arise, where they talk about the new record and the ones coming up in the future. Check it out here.

Four

Moving on, we have an incredible Canadian singer-songwriter and producer to introduce to you. Naol has released two tracks wrapped in a single format called Dual Pain. The songs “Days Of Pain” and “Pain In Her Eyes” are now available on all streaming platforms. They are inspired by events in Naol’s life. He experienced a suicidal episode and eventually lost his grandma to liver cancer. He goes into more depth about the pain he felt writing these songs, and you can read about them in the article we posted. We also allow you to listen to each song in the article here.

Three

Now we move into this week’s top three, which includes Montreal’s Debate Club. They are back with the new single, “Passage,” which is available on all streaming sites and will be the introduction to their upcoming EPs. Their first of three EP’s, Égarements Vol. 1, translates from French to “Wanderings. ” That will be available on March 3rd and flirts with the styles of shoegaze and dream-pop. This song lays the foundation of a new direction, a more introspective taken by the group in this trilogy of upcoming EPs. So much new music is on the way, so be sure to follow them on all their social media platforms. But you can listen to the latest single, “Passage,” by Debate Club, and learn more in the Five Questions With segment here.

Two

I have a special treat for you this week. My second top recommendation of the week is someone I’ve been a fan of for a while. I mean, it’s not every day that Multi-platinum Canadian Pop icon Shawn Desman is on our radar. He has unveiled his latest single, “Maniac,” to all streaming sites and an iconic new video. This release solidifies why Desman is one of the country’s most beloved hitmakers. Keep an ear to the ground for new music this year. It is sure to be an exciting time, but for now, check out the video for “Maniac” here.

One

There is only one last pick of the week on today’s show and post. We are returning to Toronto, Ontario, to meet a folk and indie-rock musician, Alex Southey. He’s recently unveiled his latest EP, Common Fantasies, which carries on from where his last effort (MyNightts On the Island EP) had left off. Simply going harder in the direction of aggressive alternative rock and simultaneously peeling back acoustic dream pop songs and shaping and making them more grounded and intimate. Another thing we get intimate with is our Five Questions With segment with Alex Southey. You can check out the new EP and the interview here.

That will conclude my first list of recommendations for 2023, everyone. Please share them with your friends and family everywhere, okay? But you’ll still find so many more posts and articles on our website that need your attention. So head back to the main page and explore everything we got! I’ll be back next week with my next list of recommendations from the best Canadian music websites, Canadian Beats! This has been Zach Coopz. See you next Music Monday for Zach’s Picks Of The Week! PEACE, LOVE, AND GOOD MUSIC, EVERYONE!
